What’s the next step? Find a local chapter and come to a local breakfast meeting. Join in with rides and activities and when you are ready to become a Black Sheep Member, let the president of the chapter know about your desire to join.
Membership Types:
Full Membership: $59 per bike/primary operator per year.
Spouse Membership: $49 per passenger/spouse per year.
Rules of Membership
A. Membership is open to anyone…
1. Who is a practicing Christian who regularly attends his or her local church.
2. Who owns and operates an American made V-twin motorcycle or is the spouse of said person. (Membership will not be granted to boyfriends and girlfriends or fiancees').
3. Who maintains a current motorcycle license.
4. Who is 18 years of age or older.
5. Who completes the application and renders all necessary fees.
6. Potential members will not be designated officially or unofficially as “prospects” but may be asked to wait for a period of time before joining for the purpose of mutual understanding and appreciation between the potential member and chapter leadership.
B. Special Circumstances
1. The widow or widower of a deceased member may remain a member (even if they do not own or operate a motorcycle) so long as they continue to be a person of good reputation and a member in good standing.
2. In the unfortunate case of divorce, either member may remain a member of Black Sheep so long as they both maintain all others rules of membership and a good Christian reputation. If the divorced couple cannot get along, however, one or both may be asked to leave the ministry.
3. A member may "retire" as a result of age or physical limitations and still maintain full status as a member. This is not, however, to be confused with one who simply decides to quit riding due to other interests and priorities.
C. Black Sheep members may belong to other motorcycle organizations as long as…
1. The additional organization is not in conflict with Black Sheep’s statement of faith, mission and values.
2. The Black Sheep patch is the primary patch worn to all BSHDFC official events.
3. Though not required for membership, we strongly encourage our members to join national and local HOG.
4. Some H.O.G. chapters will limit or deny the wearing of a BSHDFC patch on official HOG rides. In such a case, we encourage you to wear the HOG patch and preserve the relationship, wearing the BSHDFC patch on all other occassions.
D. Alcoholic beverages will never be consumed on any Black Sheep ride or at any function.
1. If on your own time, you choose to have a drink in public, do so having not worn your patch to that establishment.
2. Public drunkenness of a member (in or out of colors) will not be tolerated.
3. Please exercise caution and wisdom in every circumstances, keeping in mind your witness and the welfare of a weaker believer. (”Be careful, however, that the exercise of your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak.” 1Cor 8:9)
E. Violence, vulgarity, off color humor and promiscuous behavior will not be tolerated.
F. Members will not wear or display anything that is dishonoring to Christ. (T-shirts, pins, etc.)
G. Members will not wear or display support patches of 1% organizations.
H. Homosexuality and promiscuous heterosexual behavior will not be indicative of our membership.
I. Members who are more often than not absent from participation in chapter rides and meetings will be contacted by the local president to determine whether or not they should remain a part of this ministry. (See "Levels of Commitment.")
J. Members who fail to pay their annual dues without explanation and exemption may be removed from membership.
K. Members selling their American v-twin or choosing a non-American v-twin for their primary ride will no longer be eligible for membership.
L. Disciplinary Options.
When a member has broken the spirit of our statement of faith, values and/or general rules, the following degrees of discipline are the responsibility of the local President. (the national president will be responsible for all nomads.)
1. In all cases, confession and repentance followed by forgiveness and restoration is the first process and goal. (See Matthew 18:15-18)
2. A president may suspend a patch for a short period of time (30-60 days) whereby a member hangs up their colors and does not wear them for that time.
3. A president may call for the returning of a patch to the national office and the member then leaves the ministry. Any future return to this ministry would require a new application, patch and fees.
The intent of these rules is not meant to be exhaustive, but rather to clarify what some Christians may consider to be "gray areas." It is not the intent of this ministry to become sectarian or legalistic regarding to Christian behavior. We simply insist on our members representing Christ well in an otherwise ungodly world. Christ is our example - holiness is our goal.
Our members will either be single and celibate or legally married.
